Operational reference for Forge.
1. Getting Started
Installation
- • Download the latest macOS build from the Download page.
- • Open the .dmg file.
- • Drag Forge to Applications.
- • Launch Forge.
First Launch
On first launch, Forge will prompt for license activation or trial start.
License Activation
- • Enter your license key and activate.
- • Each license permits activation on two machines.
- • Deactivation frees a slot immediately.
2. Core Workflow
Standard Mode
- • Standard mode uses FFmpeg for deterministic proxy generation.
- • Designed for non-RAW formats.
Pro Mode
- • Pro Mode enables RAW workflows.
- • Requires DaVinci Resolve Studio (sold separately).
- • Forge does not include or replace Resolve Studio.
Watch Folders
- • Forge can monitor designated folders and process media recursively.
- • Behaviour is deterministic and auditable.
Deterministic Execution
- • Forge executes workflows explicitly and consistently.
- • No adaptive or hidden logic.
3. Licensing
Trial
- • 14-day evaluation period.
- • All features enabled.
- • Server-validated.
- • Expires automatically.
Project Pass
- • 30-day duration license.
- • Two machine activations.
- • Central enforcement via License Authority.
Annual
- • 365-day duration license.
- • Two machine activations.
- • Central enforcement via License Authority.
Offline Tolerance
Forge can operate offline for up to 30 days after successful validation. Periodic validation is required.
4. System Requirements
- • macOS 13 Ventura or later
- • 8GB RAM minimum (16GB recommended)
- • 2GB free disk space
- • Internet required for activation
RAW workflows require DaVinci Resolve Studio.
5. FAQ
Can I move a license to another machine?
Yes. Deactivate from the original machine to free the activation slot.
What happens if I exceed activations?
Activation will be denied until a slot is freed.
Does Forge upload media?
No. Forge does not transmit media, project files, or file names. Media remains on your machine.
Why is activation required?
To enforce activation limits and prevent license abuse.
